Director Yeon Sang-ho Planned “The Bequeathed” 10 Years Ago, Even Before “Train To Busan”

The press conference for Netflix’s new drama “The Bequeathed” was held at Ambassador Seoul Pullman Hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul at 1 p.m. on January 12th.

Revealing that “The Bequeathed” was planned before his 2016 hit movie “Train To Busan”, director Yeon Sang-ho said, “I went to the film market of the 2014 Busan International Film Festival with the plan of ‘The Bequeathed’. It’s been 10 years. It’s the story that has been in my mind for 10 years. I remember talking about ‘The Bequeathed’ with director Min Hong-nam while working on several other works”.

He explained, “10 years ago, I was interested in Korean sentiments and thrillers, and the idea for this drama came out in that context”, adding “What was different from the past was that I worked on it with the feeling of leaving my body to a large current. While having a clear theme in terms of the results, I developed the story by collaborating with many other authors”

Director Yeon added, “I heard the myth from the elderly and thought it would be very interesting to make something intertwined with Korean sentiments of family based on that.”

Director Min Hong-nam, who was in charge of directing this drama, shared, “I wanted to show how the word ‘family’ can have countless values and how the multi-layered concept of family operates importantly in this work”

Starring Ryu Kyung-soo, Park Hee-soon, Park Byung-eun, Cha Mi-kyung, and Park Sung-hoon, the drama will premiere on January 19th.
