Controversy vs. Confidence: Le Sserafim’s Bold Fashion Choices Spark Debate

The excessive exposure fashion of Le Sserafim is drawing the wrath of fans.

The group Le Sserafim participated in a media showcase commemorating the release of their mini 3rd album ‘EASY’ held at Hwajeong Gymnasium, Korea University in Seongbuk-gu, Seoul on the 19th.

As the full-fledged showcase began, there was an audible gasp from the crowd at the sight of Heo Yoonjin’s outfit, as it was the first time such an attire had been showcased. This was because she confidently revealed loose-fitting underwear while undoing the buckle of her low-rise pants, indicating a trend where the waistline of pants is lowered, known as low-rise fashion.

Heo Yoonjin had previously sparked controversy with her “pantsless look” in the teaser for the new song. This “pantsless look” refers to matching extremely short bottoms, which has led to expressions in Korea such as “missing bottoms” or “no pants.”

Furthermore, there were even more nerves among onlookers as some members wore short tops, revealing their ribs. There was also public reaction questioning whether exposure was necessary to build the image of a confident and progressive female group.

In particular, in the song “Swan Song,” where Kazuha performs ballet, even the skirt is short. This led to criticism that the powerful existing choreography of Le Sserafim didn’t match with the coordinating outfits. While this title track features a groove-oriented choreography, the constant movements leave no room for a full focus on performance, especially with such short attire.

Some fans express concerns such as “it’s too excessive,” “the lyrics are confident, but such outfits don’t resonate,” “the clothes hinder the dance,” and “put some clothes on the kids.”

Meanwhile, Le Sserafim released their mini 3rd album ‘EASY’ on the 19th. The title track “EASY” is not easy in any aspect, but it reflects Le Sserafim’s determination to make everything look easy. It’s a charming song with a catchy vocal style and addictive melody in R&B style. It has achieved top rankings on various charts, including the US iTunes chart, marking its best performance to date.
