Im Si-wan and Chun Woo-hee’s “Stolen Identity”… Head to Netflix? “It’s true that discussions have been held”

“We have proceeded with discussion, but nothing has been decided.”

The video rating classification review has already been applied through Netflix. However, Netflix said it is true that they discussed the transfer of publication right with CJ ENM, which is in charge of investment and distribution of the movie, but no decision has been made. This is the case of “Stolen Identity” starring Im Si-wan and Chun Woo-hee.

There is a possibility that the highly anticipated film “Stolen Identity” starring Im Si-wan and Chun Woo-hee, which was weighing its release within this year, will head to global OTT Netflix rather than theaters. It is a thriller based on the novel of the same name, co-produced by Miji, Studio N and invested & distributed by CJ ENM. Its filming was completed in the first half of 2021.

The rumor that the movie is going to Netflix, which has been spreading in some parts of the film industry since the beginning of October, seems to have been accepted as a fact as it has recently been confirmed that Netflix applied proper review for rating classification to the Korea Media Rating Board. However, the positions of CJ ENM and Netflix, which are the subjects of the transfer of publication right, were different.

In a phone call with Newsen on November 1st, an official from CJ ENM addressed the transfer of rights for the movie “Stolen Identity” to Netflix, saying, “It is true that discussions have been held, but the final contract has not been reached. Netflix similarly drew attention by emphasizing that “nothing has been decided”.

On the other hand, the possibility of a movie going to OTT, which was selected as one of the major distributors’ interests, is significant as an example which proves that the aftermath of the corona virus is still prevalent in the domestic film industry. Chungmuro, which realized the crisis by choosing to go to OTT one after another in the early days of COVID-19, is experiencing difficulties as the number of visitors shows a tendency to decrease again in the second half of this year.
