After the video of Choi Hyun-wook smoking and throwing cigarette butts was made public, complaints related to Choi Hyun-wook were submitted to the Gangnam District Office, and as a result of the district office’s action, Choi Hyun-wook received a fine. A fine of 50,000 KRW is imposed for the improper disposal of waste such as cigarette butts and tissues.

Previously, a video showing Choi Hyun-wook holding a woman’s hand and smoking while discarding cigarette butts went viral online, sparking controversy.

As criticism continued, Choi Hyun-wook issued a handwritten apology letter on October 5th. In the apology letter, he said, “I have disappointed many people with my reckless actions. I will humbly accept the criticism and advice you have given and strive to show a more mature side in the future.

However, Choi Hyun-wook’s apology letter was criticized for being too general and even “half-hearted” as he did not directly address his unauthorized smoking and littering cigarette butts.

Choi Hyun-wook faced more criticism for promoting the drama he is starring in in the letter without any mention of his smoking.
