BTS Jungkook, “Why do you think ‘Seven’ Explicit ver. is ‘dirty’? I can’t gain recognition unless I show a new side”
BTS member Jungkook confessed his sincere feelings about his first solo single “Seven”.
On July 22nd, Jungkook hosted a live broadcast on the fan community Weverse.
Regarding Jungkook’s solo single “Seven” (Explicit Ver.), which was released on July 14th, a fan asked, “Why did you make the dirty version?”. In response, Jungkook said, “Why are you calling it ‘dirty version’? Please explain. It’s just ‘Explicit version’, isn’t it? That’s straightforward enough, right?”, adding “People may feel differently, right? Of course, we can have different feelings about it. If you feel that way, there’s nothing I can do”.
“Seven” is a passionate serenade with lyrics expressing one’s desire to spend the entire week with their beloved people. Jungkook revealed that he wondered whether to release “Seven” Clean ver. or Explicit ver. The explicit version contains many bold lyrics.
Jungkook smiled and said, “I really had a hard time deciding between the two. I wondered whether I should pick one or release both versions. Even if I released the clean version, people would also interpret it differently in many ways, and the same goes for the explicit version. But I thought both versions are interesting”, adding, “I’m also getting older. How long has it been since my debut? I’ll be 28 next year.”
He explained, “However, I never forget why ARMYs love me so much, so I thought about it a lot. But this is what I think. I can’t gain recognition unless I show a new side of myself on my own will”.
Jungkook then confessed his honest feelings, saying “I may be the youngest in our team, and even though I’m not the youngest among idols these days, I still have that image, right? If I just follow that image because people like it, what more of myself can I change? This is my life. Shouldn’t I be the one to change it?”
The BTS member added, “It’s not like I’m forcing people who love me to accept it by saying ‘This is who I am’, but shouldn’t I persuade them to accept me this way? Even if I understand all their needs and do things accordingly, nothing will change. Will ARMY and I be truly happy until the end? I always want to find new things and introduce more fun, and I want to be acknowledged by ARMY through that.”
He continued, “Before that, I used to be scared of trying new things and didn’t really want to do anything”. Emphasizing that he wanted to gain courage from fans and challenge himself with new things, Jungkook said, “Now I don’t want my weakness to show in front of everyone anymore. I want to gain confidence and develop myself. However, I need to balance many things because many of you might find it uncomfortable. It’s because I’m not working on my own.”
