YG’s Video on Tiktok Muted for Using BLACKPINK Hit

Despite Owning BLACKPINK’s Songs, YG Also Faces Copyright Strikes

On August 29th, YG Entertainment released a short video to promote the closing performance of BLACKPINK’s BORN PINK world tour leg in Seoul. However, when uploaded to the group’s official TikTok account, the background music of the clip was muted by the platform due to “copyright restrictions.”

Specifically, in the clip, YG used the background music from BLACKPINK’s song “Tally,” but it didn’t pass TikTok’s copyright check. This amused netizens as copyright laws seemed to apply to everyone, including YG Entertainment, the owner of the song “Tally.”

The video shared by YG included significant moments from BLACKPINK’s opening night of the BORN PINK world tour.

Earlier, Rosé, a member of BLACKPINK, also faced copyright claims from online platforms for playing BLACKPINK’s music. Specifically, on August 8th, to celebrate the group’s 7th anniversary, Rosé livestreamed on Instagram to interact with fans. During the livestream, Rosé played songs like “Kick It,” “The Happiest Girl,” “Solo,” and “Whistle” by BLACKPINK as gifts to the fans.

However, due to this issue, Instagram flagged Rosé’s livestream twice, interrupting her interaction with fans. Despite her efforts to continue the livestream, the situation became unmanageable. Rosé eventually decided to return for just 50 seconds to say goodbye and conclude the livestream.
