YG Won Legal Dispute Regarding BABYMONSTER in Singapore

Prior to BABYMONSTER’s official debut, YG is known to have filed for trademarks of “BABYMONSTER” and “BABYMONSTERS” in Singapore.

However, YG later ran into a legal dispute after Monster Energy, a beverage company, protested these trademark applications, leading to an eventual court hearing.

Finally, on December 29, an official court decision was reached, with the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (hereinafter referred to as IPOS) marking Monster Energy’s Trademark Opposition as “Unsuccessful”.

This means that YG won this legal dispute regarding BABYMONSTER, and is now able to use the trademarks “BABYMONSTER” and “BABYMONSTERS” in Singapore.

In the full decision, the IPOS revealed that Monster Energy previously filed 50 trademark oppositions, only to either withdraw or default in filing in 32 of the cases.

Particularly, Monster Energy also filed a case against Gentle Monster, an eyewear brand with BLACKPINK’s Jennie as its representative, but also lost.
