Why did BTS Jin, who is about to enlist in the military, look so quiet at the airport after returning to Korea from Argentina?
BTS Jin returned to Korea with a dark expression, which is different from his usual appearance, causing fans to worry.
On October 31st, BTS Jin arrived at Incheon International Airport after successfully finishing his performance in Argentina.
Appearing in comfortable outfits, Jin shyly waved to fans when they called his name only and quickly left the airport. Due to Jin’s quiet appearance when entering Korea, fans are making speculations.
Korea is currently having a national mourning period for the victims of the Itaewon crowd crush disaster that occurred on October 29th.
BTS’s agency HYBE also joined the national mourning. On October 31st, HYBE announced, “We would like to inform you that the 2022 ‘HYBE BRIEFING WITH THE COMMUNITY’ scheduled to be released at 10 AM, November 4 (KST) through ‘HYBE LABELS’ Youtube channel, has been postponed. The changed schedule will be announced through a separate notice.”
In fact, promotional contents for Jin’s solo single “The Astronaut”, such as the ‘Station Head Listening Party’, and ‘The Astronaut Lyrics Video’, planned for Oct 30th and Oct 31st as well as SBS’s “Running Man” broadcast, featuring Jin, that had already been recorded were also temporarily delayed.
In response, fans are speculating the above postponements as the reason why Jin, who is also participating in the national mourning period, returned to Korea quietly.
In addition, Jin has also been suffering from controversies over military service exemption since the beginning of this year, so some people also guessed that Jin might have been enduring such stresses.
On October 28th, Jin announced his intention to enlist in the military through the fan community Weverse Live. He confessed, “To be polite to my fans, I waited until the October performance in Busan. The announcement was delayed because I didn’t want to perform in tears”, adding, “I think I will write something about my military enlistment within a few days as soon as I return to Korea after finishing my performance in Argentina”.
Jin revealed that BTS members had prepared to join the military after the promotion of “BE” album ended as the last activity, but the plan was changed because “Dynamite”, which was released later, topped the U.S Billboard Single Chart ‘HOT 100’ and achieved better-than-expected results.
Jin confessed, “‘Dynamite’ did so much better than we expected. We thought a lot during the Covid-19 period and then decided to release more songs that fans might like a lot, which are ‘Butter’ and ‘Permission to Dance’. The two songs also did well, so we thought it was not the right time to go (to the military)”.
He continued, “‘Permission to Dance’ was supposed to be the last activity, but then we decided to hold a concert because we thought we should do it for fans”, adding, “I told the members that I would miss performing at concerts so much after enlisting”.
Jin repeatedly expressed his position that he would fulfill his national defense obligations every time he was asked questions related to military service in public. Also, he had to suffer from numerous malicious comments as the plan continued to be delayed, and “military service exemption” controversies were raised.
In this regard, Jin expressed his sincere feelings on the live broadcast for the release of his last song before enlistment, saying “I was supposed to join the army in June. I have been criticized a lot in Korea due to this military service problem, but I feel unfair somehow.”
Meanwhile, Jin performed his solo single “The Astronaut” for the first time at Coldplay World Tour “MUSIC of the SPHERES” held at River Plate Stadium in Buenos Aries, Argentina on October 28th (local time).
“The Astronaut” is Jin’s first solo single and latest release and Coldplay also participated in producing the song. It is currently topping the Circle Chart (formerly Gaon Chart), setting another record.
Jin’s album also dominated 1st place on Circle Chart’s Weekly Retail Album Chart (the 44th week) and ranked 5th on Billboard’s Weekly Hot Trending Songs’. In addition, Jin proudly topped the daily chart (on Oct 29th) in the Global K-pop Chart category, proving his amazing brand reputation power.
