Global K-pop icons BTS once again proved their unmatched global influence at the American Music Awards, taking home both Artist of the Year and Song of the Summer at this year’s ceremony.

The event was held on May 25 (local time) at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, marking BTS’ first full-group appearance on the AMA stage in five years following their military hiatus.

The group won Song of the Summer with SWIM while also securing the night’s grand prize, Artist of the Year, for the second time in their career. BTS surpassed major international artists including Bad Bunny, Bruno Mars, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, and Taylor Swift to claim the top honor.

Recognized alongside the Grammy Awards and the Billboard Music Awards as one of the three biggest music awards shows in the United States, the AMAs determine winners through fan voting.

With nominations in Artist of the Year, Song of the Summer, and Best Male K-pop Artist, BTS expanded their impressive AMA record to 12 career trophies.

Since debuting at the awards show in 2018 with Favorite Social Artist, BTS has maintained an extraordinary winning streak. The group previously made history in 2021 when they became the first Asian act ever to win Artist of the Year, alongside victories for Favorite Pop Duo/Group and Favorite Pop Song for Butter.

Their latest achievements come only two months after releasing their fifth full-length album ARIRANG in March, signaling a powerful comeback after completing their military service period.

During their acceptance speech, BTS shared heartfelt thoughts about their comeback journey and the pressure they experienced while working on new music.

Leader RM first thanked fans worldwide, saying: “A huge shoutout to ARMY around the world. Thank you so much for giving ‘SWIM’ so much love.”

RM then candidly reflected on the challenges the group faced while preparing their comeback album.

“While making this album, we definitely felt a lot of pressure. We constantly asked ourselves, ‘What is the most BTS-like music we can make right now?’ But through it all, the one thing we believed in was that we must continue to challenge ourselves and keep moving forward.”

His honest comments resonated deeply with fans, highlighting BTS’ determination to stay authentic while continuing to evolve artistically.

Member V also took time to thank the staff at BIGHIT MUSIC as well as longtime producer Pdogg.

Referencing the title of their winning track, V shared a comforting message with listeners around the world: “To everyone continuing to swim through the ocean of life without giving up no matter the circumstances, we send our love and support. So please, don’t stop and keep swimming.”

The emotional speech drew loud applause from the audience and quickly spread across social media after the ceremony aired.

Introduced by Queen Latifah, BTS received explosive cheers as they appeared together on the AMA stage for the first time since 2021.

Even after their military hiatus, the group’s global popularity remains stronger than ever. Their double victory at the 2026 AMAs further cements BTS’ legacy as one of the most influential acts in modern music history.
