Uhm Jung Hwa looked back on the past 30 years of working as an all-around entertainer.
Uhm Jung Hwa appeared as a guest on the June 7th broadcast of tvN’s “You Quiz on the Block”.
Uhm Jung Hwa greeted her second heyday by playing the main character Cha Jeong Suk in the drama “Doctor Cha”. Regarding this, Uhm Jung Hwa said that she seemed to feel a hot response again after 20 years.
She recalled, “I was very nervous from the first broadcast. At that time, I was filming ‘Dancing Queens on the Road’, so I couldn’t watch the drama and only received messages saying it was good. I cried for 30 minutes at a place where there was no camera. It was tears of joy.”
Regarding working with Lee Hyori, Kim Wan Sun and BoA through “Dancing Queens on the Road”, she shared, “It’s meaningful to be able to gather by generation like this. Sometimes I get the feeling of when I was on stage in the past.”
Uhm Jung Hwa is the original all-around entertainer who freely goes back and forth between singer and actress. Regarding her debut song “Pupil” written and composed by the late Shin Hae Chul, Uhm Jung-hwa said, “Shin Hae Chul said he wrote the lyrics after looking into my eyes. I think I was able to come this far because of this song, but back then, I had a lot of worries about my image. At that time, innocent singers such as Kang Susie and Ha Soo Bin were popular, so I wondered what kind of image a person like me should show.”
After that, Uhm Jung Hwa, who opened the era of sexy diva with consecutive hits such as “Rose of Betrayal”, “Poison” and “I Don’t Know”, stood tall again as an actress by showing unconventional acting through the movie “Marriage Is a Crazy Thing”.
Besides, Uhm Jung Hwa confessed that she lost her voice for about 8 months due to thyroid cancer surgery after her 2008 album “D.I.S.C.O”. Uhm Jung Hwa recalled her feelings at that time, “I hid it because I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to do what I wanted to do. The fear when my voice didn’t come out was enormous.”
About her trembling voice, she said positively, “Even now, when I read comments, there are people who are worried that my voice is trembling or that I seem to be sick. I’m not sick. I hope you’ll accept that my voice is like this. I’m fine.”
