Uhm Jung-hwa Is Proud To Complete Her Concert After Fighting Thyroid Cancer And Suffer Vocal Paralysis After-effects

Uhm Jung-hwa expressed her feelings about successfully finishing her concert after overcoming thyroid cancer.

On February 14th, a video featuring Uhm Jung-hwa was posted on actress Lee So-ra’s YouTube channel “Super Market Sora.”

In the video, Uhm Jung-hwa talked about finishing a concert successfully at the end of last year, saying, “I think I did my best. I didn’t want to disappear from the world because of my age or voice. That’s why I really worked hard.” Uhm said she felt like going back and forth between cold and hot baths throughout the concert practice. “As I wasn’t confident, I kept listening to nice compliments. I practiced singing hard every day. I did it for 2-3 hours a day. One of my vocal cords couldn’t stick. One of my vocal cords is paralyzed,” she said. “I have suffered from vocal cord paralysis since the thyroid cancer surgery.”

Uhm Jung-hwa had a hard time for eight months immediately after thyroid cancer surgery. She recalled, “Since my vocal cords did not stick, I had a camera put through my nose to get the procedure done. I couldn’t move my throat with my vocal cords, and I couldn’t cough. But if (the camera) got stuck in my throat, I would cough, and I couldn’t swallow my saliva. So, I fill my paralyzed vocal cords with filler-like injections outside. When my vocal cords are stuck, it makes a tight sound, but only one cord moves,” she said.

Eventually, Uhm Jung-hwa said she was proud of her challenging herself, saying, “I’m so proud to see that I can sing at the age of over 30, 40 or 50.”
