Two girl groups that are similar from their background to school violence scandals, proving a “Parallel Theory”
2022 can simply be called the “Heyday of Girl Groups.”
IVE, a representative 4th-generation idol group, has established themselves as a “popular girl group” both in sales and public recognition by making consecutive hits of “LOVE DIVE” and “After Like.”
New Jeans, a new girl group that debuted in August, is also seen as an emerging powerhouse by sweeping the music charts as soon as they debuted.
The same is true of the girl group LE SSERAFIM, which HYBE ambitiously released in May. LE SSERAFIM, who received a lot of love for their debut song “FEARLESS,” made a splendid comeback with their second mini-album “ANTIFRAGILE” on Oct 17th.
On Mnet’s “LE SSERAFIM Comeback Show: ANTIFRAGILE,” which aired on the same day, they released their first performance of the new song “ANTIFRAGILE”, leading to tremendous cheers.
On the same day, (G)I-DLE also released their new song “Nxde,” facing LE SSERAFIM directly on the chart.
While both groups are drawing attention as they came back at the same time, fans are raising a “Parallel Theory” that there are many similarities between LE SSERAFIM and (G)I-DLE.
First of all, (G)I-DLE member Soo-jin and LE SSERAFIM member Kim Ga-ram both left the team due to controversy over school violence.
In addition, (G)I-DLE leader Jeon So-yeon is from Mnet’s “Produce 101,” while LE SSERAFIM’s leader Kim Chae-won also appeared in Mnet’s “Produce 48” and succeeded in making her debut as an IZ*ONE member.
In particular, Jeon So-yeon and Kim Chae-won are both from Gaepo-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, and their hometowns are the same.
Only two members of (G)I-DLE are Korean (Jeon So-yeon and Mi-yeon), and only Kim Chae-won and Hong Eun-chae are Korean among LE SSERAFIM members.
Even (G)I-DLE’s debut date is May 2nd, 2018 while LE SSERAFIM’s debut date is May 2nd, 2022. Their debut date is exactly four years apart.
After the similarities between LE SSERAFIM and (G)I-DLE are highlighted, many are surprised, saying, “This is really creepy,” and “I think it’s really a parallel theory.”
Meanwhile, LE SSERAFIM’s new song “ANTIFRAGILE” contains LE SSERAFIM’s confident attitude toward any hardship they might or have faced. Through the song, the members of LE SSERAFIM are determined to grow and become stronger through ups and downs, and say they will overcome the difficulties with their skills and efforts.
They delivered the message, “We are never broken,” and expressed their determination to pioneer their own path without hesitation.
In addition, (G)I-DLE’s new song “Nxde” contains the girls’ strong determination to show their true self, not the way that others want them to be.
The song expresses their undecorated individual’s true self in comparison to the word “nude” with impressive lyrics that criticize with sarcasm.
