This actress was once considered to play Jung Ho-yeon’s character Kang Sae-byeok in ‘Squid Game’
It has been confirmed that actress Jeon Jong-seo used to be a strong candidate for the role of Kang Sae-byeok in ‘Squid Game’.

In particular, Jung Ho-yeon, the model/actress who took on the role of Kang Sae-byeok in ‘Squid Game’, won the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series Award for her performance in the series at 28th Screen Actors Guild Awards and was nominated for the award of the same name at the 74th Emmy Awards.
On September 28, Jung Ho-yeon was named in the 2022 “TIME 100 Next” list “that recognizes 100 rising stars from across industries and around the world.”
However, the story behind the casting process of ‘Squid Game’ has revealed that director Hwang Dong-hyuk and the series’ production company Siren Pictures Inc. used to consider another actress for the role of Kang Sae-byeok before Jung Ho-yeon.
This actress’ name was Jeon Jong-seo.
Jeon Jong-seo left a strong impression in the audience’s hearts with her excellent performance of the character Shin Hae-mi in the movie ‘Burning’ (2018). Jeon Jong-seo’s eyes, appearance, emotion, as well as acting skills in this work were highly praised by director Hwang Dong-hyuk and was said to fit well with the character Kang Sae-byeok in ‘Squid Game’.
The production team of ‘Squid Game’ then sent a meeting request to those who are acquainted with Jeon Jong-seo. They even organized a private meeting with Jeon Jong-seo but sadly, the result didn’t go well.
