The special changes of the 2020 MAMA awards ceremony

There are only a few days left until MAMA 2020 will officially take place, let’s take a look at the changes of this year’s awards ceremony.

MAMA is the abbreviation of the Mnet Asian Music Awards, the biggest music awards ceremony in Asia organized by Mnet.  Along with Seoul Music Awards, Golden Disk Awards, and Melon Music Awards, MAMA is one of four important annual awards, given to Asian artists who achieved great achievements in a year.

The MAMA awards ceremony is usually held in December every year and always receives the attention of music lovers in general, and Korean music lovers in particular.  This year, due to the complicated progress of the Covid-19 epidemic, the show will have a lot of changes compared to the previous awards ceremonies.

Shorten the holding time

MAMA has traditionally lasted 2 to 3 days in different countries.  However, this year’s ceremony was shortened to 1 main award day and took place in Korea.  This is the first time in 11 years that MAMA is held in Korea.  According to information from the Organizing Committee, this year’s program, titled “Gate To New Topia”, will take place on December 6, 2020.

Without any audience, the awards ceremony will be completely live-streamed

The complicated epidemic situation made MAMA unable to hold a grand stage with millions of fans.  This year, the awards ceremony will be held online only, without any audience.  Accordingly, the content will also change, details of new activities will be announced by the Organizing Committee on the official portal of the station.

The biggest music award in Asia, MAMA, has always had breakthrough ideas.  With the complicated epidemic situation, this year’s ceremony will be a great opportunity for the Organizing Committee to challenge themselves with online platforms.  Based on the experiences, knowledge, and techniques this team has accumulated over the years, they are confident to prepare their best performances so that MAMA 2020 can shine globally, as its title.
