The reason why Kim Jong-kook, who could have been exempted, decided to go to the military, his Father’s identity attracted attention
Singer Kim Jong-kook recalled his childhood.
Kim Jong-kook met health YouTuber Kim Gye-ran on his YouTube channel on April 14th and found out what they didn’t know about each other.
Kim Gye-ran revealed that he started exercising when he started practicing aikido in elementary school. Kim Jong-kook, who was listening to Gye-ran’s growth process, also mentioned his school days, saying, “You have many similarities to me.” Recalling that time, he confessed that it was almost like living in the military because his father was a soldier.
According to what is known, his father is a disabled soldier who was wounded while participating in the Vietnam War. However, he said even though his father was national merit, Kim Jong-kook himself had never benefited from it.
According to Article 62 of the Military Service Act and Article 130 (4) of the Enforcement Decree of the Military Service Act, one child of a national merit can receive special military service privileges for six months, regardless of the results of the physical examination.
Kim Jong-kook faithfully performed his military service for two years without receiving any benefits for children of national merit. It is reported that his father delayed the application for national merit in order to send not only Kim Jong-kook but also his eldest son to the military.
On the other hand, Kim Jong-kook was put to serve as a public service worker instead of active duty at the age of 20 due to his severe herniated disc (intervertebral disc herniation), which he had suffered for a long time. His older brother has reportedly served as a military doctor.
