Stellar Jeonyul, “Wearing underwear and spilling milk on chest…I was too young and didn’t know it was provocative”

Former Stellar member Jeonyul mentioned the controversy over sensationalism during her idol activities.

On August 29th, the YouTube channel “근황올림픽” uploaded a new video titled “Meeting Jeonyul. Current status of idol with No.1 body who earns 10,000 per hour after disbandment.”

Stellar Jeonyul appeared in the video and revealed that she has been working at a jewelry store since Stellar’s disbandment. She said, “I go to work at 10 a.m. and get off work at 10 p.m. I earn a little more than 10,000 won per hour”, revealing her whereabouts.

She then shared, “Maybe the group’s image was too strong during our activities, many people reacted, ‘You look so different’, even after knowing I was from Stellar”.

Jeonyul, who was 20 years old when Stellar promoted “Marionette” in 2014, recalled that time and said, “I was too young back then so I didn’t know anything. I didn’t know the concept was sexy. On the shooting day, I showed the composer brother our outfits, saying ‘We’re wearing these kinds of clothes’, and he looked very embarrassed”.

She explained, “After ‘Marionette’ music video was released, a member asked me, ‘Did you see the comments? They are talking about drinking milk. What does it mean?’”, adding “I saw the comments and understood the reason. I thought my scenes were the lowest level because I’m the youngest member, but they actually gave me the sexiest ones.”

“Marionette” music video shows the members dancing in tight body outfits. In addition, there were provocative scenes, such as drinking milk while wearing underwear, spilling milk on the chest, singing in the bathtub, taking off the shower gown, etc.

Jeonyul also agreed that “Marionette” caused a controversy but it was a successful song. She said, “Before we released ‘Marionette’, we only performed at local festivals and military stages. However, our schedule throughout the month after the song release was filled with university festivals”.

She continued, “When we started receiving criticism, I felt scared and felt like we had done something wrong. We were trying to build the name ‘Stellar’ and our own identity, but I realized that the direction was wrong. Looking back on it, if I had been older, I might have been able to handle the sexy concept more gracefully and confidently.”
