SBS Causes Surprise by Awarding a Joint Daesang to “Taxi Driver 2” Lee Je-hoon and “Revenant” Kim Tae-ri

This is about the Drama Awards of Korea’s three major terrestrial broadcasters.

On December 31, Choi Soo-jong won the Daesang for ‘Korea–Khitan War’ at the ‘2023 KBS Drama Awards,’ while Namgoong Min won the Daesang for ‘My Dearest’ at the 2023 MBC Drama Awards held on December 30.

After being announced as the Daesang winner, Choi Soo-jong, teary-eyed, expressed overwhelming emotions, “Every moment and time I’ve lived until now felt like nothing was taken for granted,” and thanked his wife Ha Hee-ra, colleagues, production team, and staff.

Nam Goong Min Daesang MBC Drama awards 2023

Namgoong Min, after winning the Daesang, humbly pledged, “I will always be an actor who does not take anything for granted and strives in any circumstance regarding acting.” This is his third Daesang, including the SBS Drama Award for ‘Stove League’ in 2020 and MBC Drama Award for ‘The Veil’ in 2021.

The success and popularity of ‘Korea–Khitan War’ and ‘My Dearest’ were already foreseen, as both dramas captivated viewers, fulfilling the roles of powerhouses for their respective broadcasting stations.

However, a change occurred at SBS. The ‘2023 SBS Drama Awards,’ held on the same day as the MBC Drama Awards, awarded a joint Daesang to Lee Je-hoon of ‘Taxi Driver 2’ and Kim Tae-ri of ‘Revenant.’

Both ‘Taxi Driver 2’ and ‘Revenant’ received acclaim, but due to ‘Taxi Driver 2’ achieving the highest ratings among SBS dramas aired this year, Lee Je-hoon’s win overshadowed.

Although ‘Taxi Driver 2’ surpassed ‘Revenant’ by about twice the viewership ratings, the joint Daesang left viewers feeling somewhat unsatisfied with the significance of the award.
