Rosé Joins Teddy’s The Black Label: Fans Concerned About Future Activities

Rosé decides to stay with producer Teddy, unlike the other members who chose to establish their own companies.

Rosé Joins the The Black Label

On the morning of June 17th, Newsen exclusively reported that Rosé (from BlackPink) has signed a contract with The Black Label, led by music producer Teddy, to develop her solo projects.

Currently, The Black Label manages Jeon Somi, Taeyang, Zion.T, and actor Park Bo Gum.

Shortly after, The Black Label confirmed with iMBC that they are in discussions with Rosé about the contract. “We are discussing an exclusive contract with Rosé,” the company stated.

Teddy is a key figure in creating BlackPink’s music, producing most of the group’s songs and earning the members’ respect. Rosé has previously joked that Teddy is essentially the fifth member of BlackPink.

The biggest hits of the four girls, such as “Boombayah,” “Ddu-du Ddu-du,” “Kill This Love,” “How You Like That,” and “Pink Venom,” were all crafted by the producer known as the “music wizard.” In BlackPink’s latest album “Born Pink,” Teddy was involved in five out of eight songs. Therefore, many believe that BlackPink relies too much on Teddy, resulting in their music being criticized for being one-dimensional, with hip hop as the main element.

With Rosé’s contract, all four BlackPink members have found new directions for their individual promotions. Except for the group’s main vocalist, the other three members have established their own companies: Jennie founded Odd Atelier, Lisa launched LLoud, and Jisoo established Blissoo. Meanwhile, the four members still retain their group contract with YG Entertainment.

In fact, the news of Rosé joining The Black Label has sparked debates among fans. Teddy’s company is largely owned by YG Entertainment. At the beginning of 2024, The Black Label moved out of YG’s building and set up an office in the Hannam district, Yongsan, Seoul. Many believe that The Black Label operates independently but is still somewhat influenced by YG.

Fan Concerns

Artists under The Black Label do not have many notable activities. The only female artist, Somi, joined the company in 2018 but has had sporadic music releases. Initially, she released several songs produced by Teddy that gained some attention, such as “Birthday,” “Dumb Dumb,” “What You Waiting For,” and “XOXO.” However, after 2021, Somi almost disappeared. It took her two years to come back with a new mini-album, “Game Plan.” Besides Somi, Taeyang and Zion.T also do not have much musical activity.

Fans are worried that Rosé will face a similar situation if she signs with The Black Label. Unlike the other three members who have the freedom to decide on their personal activities, Rosé will be dependent on the new management company.

“Somi and Taeyang haven’t been well taken care of by the company. They return once a year, it’s concerning for Rosé,” “Initially, The Black Label had only Somi but her activities were sparse. Taeyang released music but the company’s promotion was poor, even worse than YG’s,” “The Black Label is no different from a second YG, hopefully, this is fake news,” voiced the audience.

However, many still have faith in Teddy, hoping that Rosé will be favored since she is a member of the most famous girl group at present. Additionally, Teddy’s music still creates hits, is popular with the masses, and ensures the quality of Rosé’s future solo products.
