Rain Struggles as Idol Producer: What Does the Future Hold for Ciipher with Half of the Group Leaving?

Two years after Rain announced a new beginning as an idol producer, he is facing a crisis.

On August 9, Rain’s agency, RAINCOMPANY, announced the departure of members Tan, Tag, Dohwan, and Won from Ciipher, revealing plans for team reorganization. With four members leaving Ciipher, the remaining members, Hyunbin, Hwi, and Keita, plan to continue with individual activities and future restructured team activities.

Ciipher, a seven-member boy group that debuted in 2021 as “Idols Produced by Rain,” gained attention in the music industry. With Rain directly producing the idols, they possessed solid skills, visuals, and the passion of a “4th gen representative.” However, after just two years since debut, they are now experiencing the hardship of members leaving.

Ciipher

Rain devoted himself to Ciipher’s debut showcase, taking charge of the social aspect, and his wife, actress Kim Tae Hee, even appeared in the MV for Ciipher’s debut title track “I Like You, Blind,” showcasing her strong support.

During the debut showcase, Rain expressed an extraordinary sense of responsibility, saying he had “bet his life” on Ciipher’s production. He mentioned his determination to put in all his effort for Ciipher, drawing inspiration from JYP Park Jin Young.

“I’ve bet my life just like the Ciipher members have bet their youth. Of course, there’s a possibility of failure, but I believe it will lead to success. I will consistently put in effort as a mentor and older brother for the seven members,” Rain revealed his strong determination.

The position of a producer brought him both excitement and anxiety, like walking on thin ice.

Approaching Ciipher’s first comeback, Rain shared in a photo interview, “I worry if I will receive the public’s love, but I’m also looking forward to it. Ciipher needs to work hard, and I need to do well too. I hope things go well in the future, so each of us can have the strength to live well.”

Rain

Ciipher members reciprocated Rain’s trust and respect. They expressed gratitude not only for his sincerity but also for his brotherly affection, even while he maintained a firm stance as a producer.

During a similar period, Rain appeared on MBC’s “Point of Omniscient Interference,” identifying himself as Ciipher’s manager and revealing exceptional affection. Especially, he expressed his hope that just as past struggles turned into memories, every moment for Ciipher would become a foundation for success.

Ciipher is planning a significant member reorganization following the departure of four members. Although specifics are not yet determined, some speculate that with over half the members leaving, the group might face disbandment.
