Prosecutors Demand 2-Year Imprisonment For Nam Tae-hyun’s Drug Charges, “Please Show Leniency”
The prosecution requested imprisonment sentences for both Nam Tae-hyun and Seo Eun-woo at their recent drug trial
At 10:20 a.m. on December 7th, the Seoul Western District Court (Judge Jung Chul-min) held the second trial on the drug charges of former WINNER member Nam Tae-hyun and entertainer Seo Eun-woo (formerly known as Seo Min-jae).
At the trial, the prosecution said, “It is necessary to impose severe punishment because they are recognized socially and their crimes can have a great impact on society”, adding “Both of them should be punished severely as they initially denied their wrongdoings”.
The prosecution then demanded a two-year imprisonment and an additional fine of 500,000 won for Nam Tae-hyun. For Seo Eun-woo, the prosecution asked for a sentence of 1 year and 6 months in prison with a fine of 450,000 won.
In their final arguments, Nam Tae-hyun and Seo Eun-woo admitted their crimes and asked for leniency.
Nam Tae-hyun said, “In order to have a chance to live like an ordinary person, I’m looking back on my past mistakes and correcting myself every day”, adding “As a public figure and someone who already experienced drug addiction, I feel a great sense of responsibility. In the current society where abuse of drugs is a serious problem, I’m willing to take the lead in drug prevention by confidently acknowledging my wrongdoings and exposing myself so that other people will not make the same mistakes”
Seo Eun-woo said, “I’m sorry. I may not be able to pay this debt to society but I will try to live more diligently in the future. I’ll take responsibility for my mistakes and continue to reflect on them. I’m very sorry”.
The next trial for sentence hearing is scheduled for January 18th, 2024.
Meanwhile, Nam Tae-hyun and Seo Eun-woo were indicted without detention on charges of taking methamphetamine together at Seo Eun-woo’s house in Yongsan-gu, Seoul in August last year. At that time, Seo Eun-woo exposed Nam Tae-hyun’s drug administration and assault through her SNS with evidence of Nam Tae-hyun’s syringes. Shortly after that, she deleted her post. Nam Tae-hyun is also accused of administering methamphetamine alone overseas in December last year.
