Oh My Girl’s YooA, “My Company Is Against Acting And Variety Shows”

Oh My Girl member YooA explained the meaning of her stage name and expressed her strong desire to challenge acting

On March 7th, the YouTube channel “No Back Tak Jae-hoon” uploaded a new video featuring the guest appearance of Oh My Girl’s YooA. When asked about her stage name, YooA explained, “If you search on the Internet, the first result will be ‘baby’ (‘yooa’ means ‘baby, infant’ in Korean), so I’m a little upset. The name was given by my company.”

YooA’s real name is Yoo Si-a. YooA then said, “The company removed ‘si’ from my real name to create the nickname”. Oh My Girl debuted in 2015 and YooA has also been doing solo activities.

When Tak Jae-hoon asked if there were any accessories she wanted, YooA replied, “I actually don’t have much desire. I feel better living happily and comfortably rather than having a lot of accessories”. She added, “I just want to live without working”, drawing laughter.

YooA plans to make her solo comeback with the new album “BORDERLINE” on March 14th, more than two years since the release of “SELFISH” in 2022. YooA shared, “When I was young, I wrote ‘singer’ as my dream. But it was not my dream in middle and high school”, adding “I want to try acting. But my company is against the idea of acting, saying ‘You can still be a singer for a longer time. You can sing longer’.”

When asked if she was confident in playing any characters, YooA said, “I think I can play a character that is a little rude well”, and showed an acting demonstration.

She confessed, “It’s not like I don’t feel hurt when reading malicious comments, but as I keep hearing curse words… when I was younger, it was very scary and upset to know that other people hated me.”

Receiving a compliment for her good sense of entertainment on variety shows, YooA said, “Our company may not let us do entertainment programs again. Our CEO always says, ‘You should always be careful of making mistakes with your words’. I’m a little careless (when talking).”
