“Numbers” starring Kim Myung Soo struggles to compete against other weekend dramas

“Numbers” has not been able to appeal to a larger audience due to a niche subject and the main cast’s acting.

Last Saturday gathered many highly anticipated dramas, such as “King the Land,” “See You in My 19th Life,” and “Revenant.” On that same day, “Numbers” starring Kim Myung Soo also aired its second episdoe after the first on June 23. The series recorded ratings of 4.4% and 4% for episodes 1 and 2. It was out of the top 10 most-watched TV series of public broadcast stations. “Numbers” is also a rare drama that witnessed a reduced number of viewers in the first week of airing.

“Numbers” tells the story of Jang Ho Woo (Kim Myung Soo) – a high-school graduate recruited by Taeil Accounting Firm thanks to his extraordinary attention to detail and sharp observation. Ho Woo getting into the firm is the first step of a bigger scheme to take down a network of economic criminals.

The drama revolves around office secrets and politics, attempting to build on the current craze about the subject but fails to garner significant attention. Compared to other new dramas, “Numbers” was less appealing and inviting.

Regarding the actors, both Kim Myung Soo and Yeonwoo are visually stunning idols-turned-actors. Nonetheless, they are still limited in acting performance and struggle to deliver a more complex one in a drama such as this.
