Netflix unexpectedly announces “Kill Boksoon” sequel movie production through its first-quarter financial report

Netflix’s first-quarter (Q1) financial report draws attention as it says the production of a sequel to “Kill Boksoon” has been confirmed.

According to the recently released Q1 financial report of Netflix, the company stated, “In the thriller/action category, we successfully launched new titles across various genres, including “The Night Agent”, “Rana Naidu”, “Kill Boksoon”, etc. within this first quarter”.

They added, “All of these series have been confirmed to have the next season”. In fact, this is the first time Netflix directly mentioned the production of a sequel to “Kill Boksoon”.

“Kill Boksoon” is an action movie about legendary killer Gil Bok Soon (Jeon Do Yeon), who becomes entangled in an unavoidable confrontation where she has to choose between killing or getting killed before renewing/terminating her contract with her company. Directed by Byun Sung Hyun, the movie starred Jeon Do Yeon, Seol Kyung Gu, Kim Si Ah, Esom, Koo Kyo Hwan, etc.

However, even if the production of “Kill Boksoon” sequel movie has been confirmed, it is still unknown whether director Byun Sung Hyun will continue directing the new season and whether Jeon Do Yeon is included in the case again. 

In an interview, director Byun once said, “I have some ideas for a spin-off or a sequel, but I don’t think I’ll direct it”. Jeon Do Yeon also commented, “I have no attention of appearing in the sequel”, adding that she had not received any offer from Netflix. However, she did leave open the possibility that she would consider returning only after reviewing the conditions if she were to receive a casting offer.
