TXT member Yeonjun was hit by trash while on stage.
On November 14th, eyewitness stories and photos of TXT Yeonjun being hit by trash thrown by the audience while on the stage of “Music Bank in Chile” rapidly spread around online communities.
TXT attended the “Music Bank in Chile” concert held at the Estadio Monumental in Santiago, Chile at 8 PM (local time) on November 12th. However, on the day of the performance, unusual weather conditions such as heavy rain, hail, and lightning occurred, and in the end the performance was canceled. As a result, TXT members went on stage and apologized to the audience alongside other artists.
However, disgruntled fans who waited for the group’s performance were not only booing, but also threw things at the members. As Yeonjun said hello and turned around, he was hit in the back by trash thrown by the audience, and was surprised to process the situation. It was a dizzying situation that could be very dangerous if the object thrown at Yeonjun was at risk of breakage, or if it hit the head or face rather than the back. Nevertheless, Yeonjun responded with a smile for fans until the end, demonstrating his professionalism both on and off the stage.
Yeonjun’s professionalism and love for fans deserved praise, but the noise surrounding the “Music Bank in Chile” concert continues.
In particular, fans expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that the organizers continued the concert even though it was already raining from the very start, resulting in The Boyz Hyunjae, StayC Yoon, and (G)I-DLE Shuhua falling on the stage. It is also pointed out that there was no awareness of the artist’s safety, as organizers forced them to perform even under bad weather, and artists had to go on stage and apologize for the eventual cancellation themselves, even though this should have been the production team’s responsibility.
Above all, there was also criticism regarding the Chilean audience’s attitude toward the canceled performance. It is said that local fans who visited the concert hall to see Kpop singers hulled demeaning words and committed discriminating actions towards Asians. Fans complained, “Is there any reason to go to a country that is racist and perform?”
Regarding the situation, a representative of “Music Bank in Chile” said, “During the performance, unexpected and unusual torrential rain, hail and lightning, etc., occurred, and in accordance with the recommendations of the Chilean authorities, the performance was suspended in consultation with the promoter to ensure the safety of the artists and the audience. The performance ended with a safe goodbye for the fans. We apologize to artists and global fans for not being able to finish the performance due to unexpected weather conditions.”
On the other hand, with “Music Bank in Chile”, “Music Bank” has resumed its world tour after 3 years in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Chile performance was scheduled to be hosted by SF9 Rowoon, while NCT Dream, (G)I-DLE, ATEEZ, The Boyz, TXT, and StayC were scheduled to appear.
