“I fell and got hit”… Music Bank in Chile’s various issues from discrimination to performance controversies

As the KBS2 “Music Bank in Chile” concert was suspended due to bad local weather, the situation at the time was re-examined and controversial.

On November 12th (local time), the “Music Bank in Chile” performance was held at the Estadio Monumental in Santiago, Chile.

It rained even before the start of the event, but the organizers pushed ahead with the performance, and The Boyz and (G)I-DLE came on stage.

Since then, the continuing bad weather caused artists such as Jooyeon of The Boyz, Yoon of StayC, and Shuhua of (G)I-DLE to fall during their performance.

In the end, the event was stopped. It was originally scheduled to resume when the rain stopped, but weather worsened and on-site fans rioted, leading to eventual cancellation.

However, a netizen who watched the performance claimed, “When the performance was stopped, the artists TXT, NCT Dream, and ATEEZ apologized for not being able to stand on the stage. The official said nothing, and when TXT explained the situation, I even heard boos.”

He also released a video, saying, “I even threw things to Yeonjun, a member of TXT, who reappeared after saying goodbye.”

There was also discrimination at the scene, said this netizen. In particular, he said, “At the time of the performance, local fans made fun of someone who looked like they were from Northeast Asia, calling security to inspect their bag even if they weren’t taking out their cameras, for some reason. As a result, a Korean fan was kicked out, and Chileans laughed and ridiculed the fan, saying they smelled like kimchi.”

Below are some comments from netizens:

  • I feel sorry for the artists who flew for more than 20 hours because of one stage
  • They should have stopped the stage earlier
  • Why are you throwing things?
  • Shouldn’t the broadcasting station also apologize?
