Minister of Food and Drug Safety “We caught Uhm Hong Sik, not Yoo Ah In…The system knows everything”
Oh Yoo Kyung, Minister of Food and Drug Safety, mentioned actor Yoo Ah In, who was recently investigated for illegal propofol administration.
On Feb 23rd, at the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety’s New Year press conference held in Gwanghwamun, Seoul, Minister Oh Yoo Kyung said, “It is said that we caught Yoo Ah In, but we caught Uhm Hong Sik.”
The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety manages those who are frequently prescribed psychotropic drugs such as propofol every year through the Narcotics Information Management System (NIMS). Last year, out of 650 million databases, suspects who were excessively prescribed propofol were selected, and a total of 51 people, including doctors and patients, were investigated by the police.
Minister Oh Yoo Kyung explained that only Uhm Hong Sik was included among those suspects, and that she was not targeting celebrities for the investigation. “The police investigated and found that Uhm Hong Sik was Yoo Ah In”, she said.
The director also added, “The narcotics integrated management system is trying to catch them all with great precision. The system knows who was prescribed what psychotropic drugs.”
Meanwhile, the police executed a search and seizure warrant on Yoo Ah In’s body and secured hair and blood samples, etc. They also asked the National Institute of Scientific Investigation to analyze the samples, and as a result, it was reported that Yoo Ah In tested negative for propofol but positive for cannabis.
