“Marry My Husband” has since persisted and gained even more hype, only to be faced with yet another controversy related to the original webtoon.

In particular, a “discriminating detail” from the original webtoon is resurfacing, raising criticisms.

The gist of this detail is that the female lead’s company released an instant line of Halal Food, a special range of food that follows Islamic teachings.

In the official English translation, the company’s Halal Food line failed due to plagiarism accusations, but the original Korean version tells a different story.

To specify, after the Halal Food line was announced, the female lead can be seen reading news with titles like “Korean volunteer group detained by radical Islamic group”, while another character said that “Islamic forces kidnapped and even killed Korean”. As a consequence, the Halal Food line was met with bad reception, and the company’s stock price plummeted.

The employee behind this Halal Food line was even called “Halah Girl” as an insult in this version of the “Marry My Husband” webtoon.

Currently, a TikTok video has brought this issue to life, calling “Marry My Husband” an “Islamophobic webtoon”. Under the comment section of this video, many readers also revealed that the author was Islamophobic and r*cist.

Some also mentioned that the publisher knew about the issue, to the point of changing the storyline in the webtoon’s official English release and releasing an official apology.

However, the author never apologized for this discriminating detail.

As a result, many international fans are calling to boycott the webtoon as well as the K-drama.
