Lee Yoo Bi shared her thoughts on playing a villain in “Penthouse” writer’s new drama “The Escape of the Seven”
On September 14th, an online press conference for SBS’s new Friday-Saturday drama “The Escape of the Seven” was held. In attendance were actors Uhm Ki Joon, Hwang Jung Eum, Lee Joon, Lee Yoo Bi, Yoon Jong Hoon, Jo Yoon Hee, and Jo Jae Yoon.
“Escape of the Seven” is a revenge drama in the picaresque genre (where villains are the main characters) that depicts the survival struggles of seven evildoers entangled in the disappearance of a girl due to lies and desires, and the bloody retribution they face.
The reunion of “hitmaker” Kim Soon Ok, the writer behind “The Last Empress” and the “Penthouse” series, with director Joo Dong Min, is highly anticipated.
In the drama, Lee Yoo Bi plays Han Mo Ne, a star student at the school and an aspiring idol. However, she also has a fatal flaw, even though she seems perfect in every way. Han Mo Ne is deeply involved in the tragedy that led to the downfall of a young girl.
Before the official start of the press conference, Lee Yoo Bi took out a piece of paper with the phrase “Please take good care of me” written on it. She smiled and said, “I prepared this because I couldn’t meet the reporters in person.”
Lee Yoo Bi introduced her role, “I play a top star that is immensely loved, but behind that, there is a dark inner side, a character very different from me.“
Speaking about joining writer Kim Soon Ok’s team, she expressed her feelings, “I’m a fan of the writer, so I was excited when I received the offer.” She also revealed that she previously made a special appearance as a high school student in “Penthouse.”
She recalled the energetic atmosphere on set, “I saw so much energy on set for the first time.” Regarding her role as a villain, she added, “The director said that after the drama airs, I might have trouble walking around freely. That’s what he thinks. I want to say that it’s not true.”
Uhm Ki Jun mentioned Lee Yoo Bi as the “worst villain,” and Lee Yoo Bi expressed her satisfaction, “When will I ever get to play a top star? Playing a top star is the best.”
Through this drama, Lee Yoo Bi is in competition with her sister, Lee Da In, in MBC’s “My Dearest” Part 2, which recently concluded with the successful Part 1. “The Escape of the Seven” will premiere on September 15th at 10 PM KST.
