Lee Sun-kyun Once Again Tested Negative With Armpit Hair, Police Fail To Verify K’s Statement

Dispatch criticizes the police for conducting the investigation on Lee Sun-kyun without verifying K’s statements

The Incheon National Police Agency conducted more than two body hair tests for Lee Sun-kyun. Following the negative hair test result, they tried leg hair and then armpit hair but couldn’t detect any drug substances.

The police pulled out all the hairs on Lee Sun-kyun’s body but received no result in the end, so they could not escape criticism and accusations of a forced investigation. In other words, the investigation motivation to prove drug charges has disappeared.

Based on the statements of entertainment establishment director K, the Incheon National Police Agency initiated an internal investigation. They called out Lee Sun-kyun in the investigation due to the texts and recordings obtained from K’s phone and even publicized his name from the internal investigation stage.

However, K turned out to have exported 300 million won from Lee Sun-kyun. The texts and recordings she sent to Lee Sun-kyun are likely a ‘set up’ to threaten the actor. In other words, the police must prove the credibility of K’s statement first before conducting the internal investigation on Lee Sun-kyun.

Despite that, the police told Dispatch that there was no difficulty in the investigation. They said, “Even though the drug tests came out negative, it’s impossible to simply conclude that he did not take drugs”, adding “We are doing additional confirmations”. They even revealed some details of the investigation process through the media. On November 24th, KBS reported, “The police have secured the statement that Lee Sun-kyun took drugs five times”. Until now, the investigation and reports are still solely based on K’s statement.

In fact, Dispatch found some false and manipulated messages in K’s Kakaotalk and pointed out that the conversation mentioning Lee Sun-kyun has not been proven credible. The media emphasized that the police need to be more cautious when conducting investigations relying on messages and statements.

As such, the Incheon Police Agency must understand K’s intention first. The investigation on G-Dragon was also initiated based on some text messages, videos, and statements on K’s phone, but no evidence was gained from body hair and nail drug tests.

K has a history of more than five drug convictions, and drug offenders tend to call out other names to reduce their own sentences. Therefore, the police should be wary of their statements.

In this regard, lawyer Bang Jung-hyun said, “Investigation based on statements of drug offenders is a way to catch hidden drug offenders”, adding “However, the credibility of such statements must be thoroughly verified first. It is also necessary to question the drug suspect’s motives when making such statements”.
