LE SSERAFIM is accused of plagiarizing Spanish singer Rosalía 

Recently, LE SSERAFIM is under fire for allegedly plagiarizing Spanish singer Rosalía. Netizens first analyzed the singing in LE SSERAFIM’s “UNFORGIVEN” audio teaser. They claimed the way the girl group sings and the beat in the song is similar to Rosalía’s “LINDA” released in 2021. Netizens also pointed to noticeable resemblances between the development of and the narration of “ANTIFRAGILE”, especially the mood change at 0:27, and Rosalía’s “DEBUT”. 

Viewers also notice some overlaps in M/V scenes and performance ideas between the Korean girl group and the Spanish singer. The motorbike helmet with cat ears that was found in LE SSERAFIM’s “FEARLESS” (May 2022) is similar to the one in Rosalía’s “SAOKO” (February 4th, 2022). A scene from “Antifragile” M/V released in October 2022 referenced “Chicken Teriyaki” released in February 2022.

Moreover, the opening sequence when LE SSERAFIM Chaewon cut her hair on the stage of SBS’s “Gayo Daejun 2022” was also said to have referenced Roalia’s performance during her tour “Motomami”. Rosalía’s fans express strong objections, as the singer herself took a lot of time to build a unique style. 

In Korea, the public also expresses their disappointment. They deem it unacceptable when the unique concept of a group is mostly “references” from a foreign artist.

• And I thought LE SSERAFIM was unique. 

• I like “Impurities” a lot, now it’s likely to be a copy.

• I’m disappointed when this goes against the message the group wants to put across to their fans.  

Rosalía is a Spanish singer who was nominated for four Latin Grammys and the first Spanish-singing act to be nominated for “Best New Artist” at the Grammys. She is described to be an “atypical pop star”.
