Kpop’s about to have a “girl group war” in August: will IVE be able to stand against BLACKPINK, TWICE, and SNSD?

The Kpop August race is getting hotter than ever with top Kpop girl groups making their comebacks.

BLACKPINK

After 2 years of no group comeback, BLACKPINK has finally confirmed their return in August, though there has been no specific dates. The group recently announced that filming for their new MV is already underway, and according to YG, this will be the most well-invested product of BLACKPINK. On July 31st (KST), BLACKPINK dropped a trailer announcement that revealed their 2nd full album will be released in September, and a pre-release single is set to take the world by storm within August.

The news of BLACKPINK comeback quickly raised YG’s stock price by 10%, a testament of high anticipation for the group’s first release after their successful album “The Album”. The upcoming release is expected to fully embrace the colors of BLACKPINK, followed by a world tour with scale never seen before by a Kpop girl group.

TWICE

On July 13th, soon after all 9 members of TWICE were announced to have renewed their contract with JYP, the group also confirmed their first Korean release in 2022, doubling the joy of fans.

According to their teaser image, TWICE will be dropping their 11th mini-album “BETWEEN 1&2”, 9 months after their 3rd album “Formula of Love: O + T = <3”. A TWICE member, Nayeon, also recently made her solo debut with first album “IM NAYEON” and the title song “POP!”, which attained huge achievements both in and outside of Korea. Therefore, TWICE’s comeback will be something to look forward to.

SNSD

To celebrate their 15th year anniversary, SNSD will be coming back with their 8-member lineup, despite some members having left SM Entertainment. It has been 5 years since “Holiday Night”, the group’s last album together, so fans are extremely excited.

In particular, SNSD will release their 7th full album “FOREVER 1” in digital format on August 5th, while physical copies will hit the shelf starting August 8th. As of the moment, their teaser images for “MR. TAXI” version, where all members boast outstanding visuals after 15 years in the industry, have been drawing great attention. The group will also be hitting Korean TV channels via various variety show appearances.

IVE

Despite making their debut just 8 months ago, IVE has been constantly releasing new music. The group has also confirmed the release of their 3rd single album “After Like” on the upcoming August 22nd.

Among Kpop girl groups making their comeback this August, IVE is the youngest name with less than 1 years of activities. However, Kpop fans are still looking forward to how they fare against their seniors, seeing that IVE has been considered a “monster rookie” and a formidable opponent.
