From “Revenant” to “King the Land”, bloody weekend drama five-way race

The bloodiest weekend drama battle in the first half of 2023 will take place. This quarter, it is a “five-way race”.

MBC, SBS, tvN, JTBC and TV Chosun will face off through “Drama War Day” on June 24th. First of all, MBC’s Friday-Saturday drama “Numbers” (written by Jung An, Oh Hye Seok, directed by Kim Chil Bong) began its first broadcast on June 23rd. “Numbers” tells the various stories that unfold within an accounting firm. It revolves around an accountant with a high school diploma, who fights against injustice. The combination of Kim Myung Soo, Choi Jin Hyuk and Choi Min Soo is fresh, raising curiosity about what kind of action and explosiveness the intertwined relationship between Kim Myung Soo, the accountant of justice, Choi Jin Hyuk, who works together with him, and Choi Min Soo, the villain as well as father of Choi Jin Hyuk, will show.

SBS’ Friday-Saturday drama “Revenant” (written by Kim Eun Hee, directed by Lee Jung Rim) also started the same time zone competition. “Revenant” is a Korean-style occult mystery drama in which a woman possessed by a devil and a man who can see the devil seek the truth behind the mysterious deaths surrounding the five bodies. Kim Tae Ri took on the lead role and writer Kim Eun Hee of “Sign”, “Signal” and “Kingdom” penned the work, raising expectations.

Mrs. Durian

TV Chosun’s Saturday-Sunday drama “Mrs. Durian” (written by Im Sung Han, directed by Shin Woo Chul and Jung Yeo Jin), which will premiere on June 24th, stimulates dopamine in that it is the next work of “Phoebe” Im Sung Han, who showed exceptional writing skills with “Dear Heaven”, “Miss Mermaid” and “New Tales of Gisaeng”. “Mrs. Durian” tells the story of two women from a noble family in the Joseon dynasty getting entangled with men through time travel to the year 2023, the present. In the second and third teasers released earlier, Jang Se Mi (Yoon Hae Young) confessed to her mother-in-law Baek Do Yi (Choi Myung Gil) “I love you, mother. As a woman, not as a daughter-in-law”, sparking curiosity about whether it will present an unconventional story called “homosexuality between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law”.

king the land

JTBC’s “King the Land” (written by Choi Rom, directed by Im Hyun Wook) and tvN’s “See You in My 19th Life” (directed by Lee Na Jung, written by Choi Young Lim, Han Ah Reum), which already began airing the first week, are off to a good start. “King the Land” recorded 5.1% in the first episode and 7.5% in the second episode (based on Nielsen Korea nationwide) and is expected to be a hit this quarter. It shows a romantic comedy between King Hotel’s head general manager Lee Jun Ho and hotelier Im Yoona. Although it is a cliche, it is also reminiscent of the success of SBS’ “Business Proposal” in that it is exciting and attractive.

see you in my 19th life

See You in My 19th Life” also began its first week with an upward trend of 4.3% in the first episode and 5.5% in the second episode. “See You in My 19th Life” tells the story of Ban Ji Eum (Shin Hye Sun), a girl who has been repeating her life through reincarnation for nearly a thousand years and can remember all her past lives. After her eighteenth life is cut short due to a tragic accident, she decides to reconnect with the man from her previous life in her nineteenth one. The romance meeting between Shin Hye Sun and Ahn Bo Hyun caused excitement, and there is no doubt about the development as it is based on Lee Hye’s webtoon of the same name, which has a Naver Webtoon rating of 9.98 and 700 million global cumulative views. Director Lee Na Jung, who showed solid directing through “Fight for My Way”, “Love Alarm” and “Mine”, increased the level of perfection.
