From Kim Hye Soo to ITZY Ryujin, Korean stars show support to Turkey and Syria’s earthquake victims

Various Korean stars are stepping up to share the pain of the devastating earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria, killing tens of thousands of people.

After the strong earthquake struck Turkey and Syria on February 6th (local time), there have been numerous Korean celebrities who are showing their own support to victims. From the entertainment industry to athletes, all are contributing warmth by sending donations to the affected countries.

Actors Kim Hye Soo, Park Seo Joon, Suzy, Jang Geun Suk, Han Ji Min, singer MC Mong, and NCT Doyoung and Haechan donated 100 million won each to the earthquake victims. 

Shin Min Ah, Song Yoon Ah and Sol Kyung Gu, Lee Hyeri, Jung Ryeo Won, and ITZY Ryujin donated 50 million won each.

Artists from Feel Ghood Music, including Tiger JK and Yoon Mi Rae, as well as BIBI, donated 40 million won to Doctors Without Borders, asking for it to be used for the recovery of Turkey and Syria.

Actors Kim Go Eun, Park Bo Young, Park Jin Young, Yoo In Na, and Joo Hyun Young also donated 30 million won to help the victims who lost their homes and are waiting for help. In addition, actors such as Lee Hye Young, Jang Sung Kyu, Yang Dong Geun, Im Si Wan, Kim Se Jeong, and artists such as SEVENTEEN Scoups, BtoB Eunkwang, GOT7 Jay B, WINNER Kim Jin Woo, Chungha rapper DinDin, and lyricist Kim Eana continue to donate and become models for fans.

There is also a line of donations from sports stars. Kim Yuna, who is working as an international goodwill ambassador for UNICEF, donated 100,000 dollars (approximately 120 million won). 

Meanwhile, volleyball player Kim Yeon Koung, also appealed for help along with her donation. On the 6th and 7th, she posted three posts on her SNS with details of how to send donations to Turkey and Syria. 

There are celebrities who are suffering from malicious comments even though they donated. This includes comedian Lee Yong Jin, who is appearing in “Turkids on the Block” produced by YouTube channel Studio Waffle, who donated 30 million won for earthquake recovery.

In particular, some netizens frowned at the amount of Lee Yong Jin’s donation, seeing that the comedian made money using Turkey as his content. 

Meanwhile, on February 6th, a magnitude 7.8 earthquake occurred in southeast Turkey and northern Syria, and as of February 13th, it was confirmed that the death toll has exceeded 30,000. In response, people from all over the world are reaching out to help, and Korea also dispatched a total of 110 relief teams to assist with emergency relief.
