Foreign Media Reported Lee Sun-kyun’s Death & Reactions From Overseas Fans

Lee Sun-kyun was found dead in his car at a park in Jongno-gu, Seoul on the morning of December 27th. 

Before that, actress Jeon Hye-jin, reported to the police that her husband left the house leaving a note like his last will. There were also traces of an extreme choice at the scene of the incident.

Lee Sun-kyun made his name known overseas after starring in Bong Joon-ho’s Oscar-winning movie “Parasite” and Netflix’s drama “My Mister”. Perhaps that’s why the news of his death quickly made headlines in foreign media outlets, such as BBC, The Washington Post, AP, etc.

Upon hearing the news of Lee Sun-kyun’s sudden death, not only Korean netizens but overseas movie fans were also bewildered. 

On SNS, overseas netizens commented, “I wonder how serious drug use is as a crime in Korea that it could even kill someone”, “Korean society has taken his life”, “The drug laws in Korea are too strict. I hope this incident can be a chance for them to review the laws”, etc.

Others added, “He wasted his talent and life on drugs”, “He was such an amazing actor”, “I was very impressed by his acting in ‘My Mister’…”, “He must have been very distressed”, etc.

Meanwhile, Lee Sun-kyun was booked on drug charges by the police in October. After being summoned for the third time, the actor continued to complain about unfairness and requested a lie detector test to verify entertainment establishment director A’s statement.

However, as Lee Sun-kyun has died, the police plan to conclude the investigation related to him because it is no longer possible to prosecute him.
