Fashion Designer Accused BLACKPINK Lisa’s “Rockstar” Of Plagiarism

BLACKPINK Lisa’s recent solo comeback has gotten into a controversy.

Recently, screenshots of a conversation between a fashion designer named Yue Yang and a netizen went viral on the Chinese social media platform xiaohongshu. In the conversation, the designer and the netizen discuss the similarities of the crop top BLACKPINK’s Lisa wore in the music video of her recent solo comeback song “ROCKSTAR” and A1J’s (Yue Yang’s brand) heart crop top design. The designer even claimed that Lisa’s crop top is a “rip-off” version and she was never contacted by Lisa’s team for the design.

On xiaohongshu, Yue Yang posted photos of her original design, which was made in 2020, along with proof that her designed has been copied and cheaper “ripped off” versions can be found online.

After the above mentioned screenshots went viral, Yue Yang also posted photos showing the similarities and photos of her final design on A1J’s Instagram. Her caption reads, “The star design was then either blatantly copied by other people or “modified” a bit to look otherwise. I agree that there are different minds thinking alike, but in the same time I think my design was definitely somehow on someone’s mood board at some point. Both on designer pieces and on Taobao.

For the past few years I tried to sue or report on the product but getting a copyright for this design is both time and money consuming. I did not have the capacity to register for my brand during covid time. Especially I was designing and making in london while most of other “inspired” pieces were made in other places, there’s difference on law in different regions. Since yesterday I’ve been trying to contact stylist who pulled pieces that I think is clearly a copy paste of mine, but still until now I have no response.

After voicing out on Chinese platform and here on Instagram, I have also received fake pr team messages from fans and threats comment on xiaohongshu.

Despite the controversy growing bigger and bigger, LLOUD, Lisa’s agency, has not made any official statement.
