Ex-Wanna One Lai Guanlin Caught Smoking Despite Having Apologized For Same Incident 3 Years Ago

On January 17th (local time), foreign media ETtoday reported the controversy over Chinese singer and actor Lai Guanlin, who used to be active as a member of the Korean idol group Wanna One after competing in Mnet’s survival program “Produce 101 Season 2”, smoking on the street. 

That day, the SNS channel of a Chinese paparazzi site released a video of Lai Guanlin smoking on the street. In the video, Lai Guanlin was smoking in an underground parking lot of a place where he came to watch a movie with two friends. Before leaving the scene, he threw the cigarette butts on the ground and stepped on it instead of picking it up and throwing it in the trash.

Earlier in 2020, Lai Guanlin was also harshly criticized as he was spotted smoking and spitting on the street without wearing a mask properly even though it was in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic. At that time, the male star issued an apology, saying “As a public figure, I made a big mistake. I will accept all the criticism and promise not to do it again”.

However, three years later, he repeated his mistake. Therefore, the public once again poured negative reactions, such as “Seems like he didn’t reflect on himself at all”, “This is so embarrassing compared to his handsome appearance”, “He’s just that kind of person”, etc.

Meanwhile, Lai Guanlin suspended his activities in Korea ever after the disbandment of Wanna One in 2019. He has been active only in China.
