More than a year has passed since BlackPink’s last comeback as a group. Fans are urging YG Entertainment to let the group return.
On January 24, Blinks (BlackPink’s fandom) trended the hashtag #WeWantBlackpinkMusic on Twitter. Fans ask YG Entertainment to make an official statement regarding BlackPink‘s comeback, Jisoo‘s solo debut, and Jennie’s next solo promotion.
Accordingly, BlackPink has not had any new comeback promotion as a group since their 1st full album The Album was released in October 2020. The group’s most recent official group activity is the online concert “The Show”, held on January 31, 2021.
BlackPink released the Japanese version of The Album in August 2021 but there was barely any promotion schedule. Therefore, fans are looking forward to the group’s next comeback with a complete lineup.
Besides, one thing that makes fans worried is that BlackPink is entering their final year of the exclusive contract with YG Entertainment. Most idol groups sign contracts that last 7 years with their management companies. BlackPink debuted in 2016 and their contract is believed to expire in 2023. Therefore, Blinks hope BlackPink will have at least one more comeback before negotiations for renewal of their contract.
Fans also pointed out that, on June 1, 2020, YG Entertainment revealed Jisoo‘s solo single was about to be released. However, a year and a half later, YG still gives no further updates on Jisoo’s promised debut as a solo singer.
According to sources, “Snowdrop” starring Jisoo has finished filming in July 2021 and will air its final episode on January 30, 2022. Therefore, fans hope to see the debut of the eldest member of BlackPink soon. She is also the only member of the group who has not had an individual music product.
Another member that fans want YG to update her personal activities is Jennie. Since debuting with Solo in November 2018, Jennie has not released any new songs. Many people can’t help but wonder why the female singer was not allowed to make a comeback even though Solo is an extremely successful product commercially in Korea in particular and globally in general.
Solo has topped the Gaon digital chart for 13 consecutive weeks and remained in the top 100 for 33 weeks. In addition, the song also topped the Billboard Digital Song Sales chart, and was certified platinum by the Korea Music Content Association.
On the other hand, besides the reason related to the contract term, the reason for Blink‘s worry is that in the near future, YG will soon launch a completely new girl group. This makes people worry that the management company will neglect BlackPink‘s activities, like what they earlier did with other YG artists.
Given BlackPink‘s outstanding success and global reputation, fans expect the group to have more activities in 2022. Currently, YG Entertainment has not yet responded to this matter.
