Drama topicality: No.1 is “My Dearest” without any change, but No.3 is attracting attention

tvN’s Monday-Tuesday drama “Twinkling Watermelon” is on the verge of setting a meaningful record

In the TV-OTT integrated topicality drama category for the 2nd week of November announced by Good Data Corporation, “Twinkling Watermelon” ranked 3rd, with a 32.7% increase in topicality compared to the previous week. Notably, the drama achieved its own highest record for 6 consecutive weeks after the first broadcast.

Good Data Corporation stated, “If ‘Twinkling Watermelon’ breaks its own highest record once again in the next survey, it will be the fourth work to achieve a perfect fun strength index within the broadcast period after ‘SKY Castle’, ‘My Liberation Notes’ and ‘Red Balloon’.

According to the survey, dramas that exceed the topicality record in the second week of broadcast due to concentrated promotion and marketing efforts account for less than 20% of the total. However, surpassing the own highest record every week until the end of the broadcast indicates that the fun strength index of the work increases as it progresses to the latter half.

Despite demonstrating high competitiveness in topicality, the drama maintains a viewership rating in the 3% range. The reason for this can be found in the search response statistics. The search ratio of the target audience, 10~20s, for “Twinkling Watermelon” is around 40%, significantly exceeding the drama average of 27%.

Good Data analyzed that while the viewership rating reflects the competitiveness of viewers watching through TV, “Twinkling Watermelon” is consumed through various channels such as OTT, IPTV, YouTube, and is likely to be consumed through binge-watching in the future.

The drama’s popularity is also attributed to the unexpected topicality performance of Shin Eun-soo alongside Choi Hyun-wook, Ryeoun and Seol In-ah. In the TV-OTT integrated actor topicality survey, Choi Hyun-wook and Ryeoun consistently ranked high in the early stages of the broadcast, but as the drama progressed, the topicality gap between Choi Hyun-wook, Ryeoun, Seol In-ah and Shin Eun-soo narrowed.

In the 2nd week of November survey, MBC’s Friday-Saturday drama “My Dearest Part 2” claimed the top spot for the fourth time, while tvN’s Saturday-Sunday drama “Castaway Diva” took the second spot. Netflix’s “Daily Dose of Sunshine”, which started at 8th place in the first week, climbed to 4th place with a 62.9% increase in topicality.
