“Crash Course in Romance”, the work Jeon Do Yeon had been waiting for 18 years

Actress Jeon Do Yeon had no choice but to do “Crash Course in Romance”.

Jeon Do Yeon has made a comeback to romantic comedy after a whopping 18 years with “Crash Course in Romance.” Since her work in “Lovers in Prague” in 2005, Jun has mainly acted in darker or heavier productions, making her choice of “Ilta Scandal” clear.

During last month’s production presentation, Jun explained that she was drawn to the bright charm of “Crash Course in Romance” but also admitted that she felt a sense of pressure when she first received the script. It had been so long since she had received a bright script that she could not remember. She had to balance between finding it fun and wondering if she was up to the task.

However, the reason why Jeon Do Yeon was able to make a bold choice can be seen in episode 78 of the JTBC show “Movie Room” in 2019.

During her appearance on “Movie Room” Jeon Do Yeon, who won the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival in 2007 for “Secret Sunshine,” expressed her frustration at feeling the weight of her accolades. She said that as time passed, the number of offers she received decreased, and she became known as a difficult actress to work with. She even mentioned feeling unsure about whether people would expect her to take on certain roles.

Jeon Do Yeon expressed her resentment, “I want to do light and fun works, but no one believes me.”

She revealed her hardships as an actress called “Queen of Cannes”, “I was originally a lively and cheerful actress, but after ‘Secret Sunshine’, I became an actress who only shoots movies for film festivals or serious works. The honor I gained from the Cannes Film Festival was great, but it was hard to bear the burden of the award as an actress who has to do more works in the future.”

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter at the Berlin International Film Festival on Feb 17th (local time), Jeon Do Yeon expressed her desire for various acting. She said, “There is an aspect of me looking very much forward to working in a wider variety of projects with many other directors. Going forward, I still have that thirst of wanting to try more genres – to play more roles and tell more stories.”

“Crash Course in Romance” follows the bittersweet relationship between a banchan shop owner who belatedly enters the war of Korea’s college entrance exams and a top hagwon instructor. The romantic comedy acting by Jeon Do Yeon and Jung Kyung Ho stands out.

The response to tvN’s “Crash Course in Romance”, which has 4 episodes left until the end, is still hot. According to Nielsen Korea, “Crash Course in Romance” started with a rating of 4.0% in episode 1 and recorded a rating of 13.0% in episode 12 on Feb 19th.

Attention is focused on how “Crash Course in Romance”, in which Jeon Do Yeon’s bright and bouncy charm shines, will come to an end.
