The highly anticipated Netflix’s original series “The Silent Sea” has finally been unveiled.
On December 24th, “The Silent Sea” was released all around the world on Netflix.
Adapted from director Choi Hyang-yong’s short film, “The Silent Sea” tells about members of an elite crew leaving for a research base abandoned on the moon after receiving a special mission to save the Earth, which has been suffering from a lack of resources.
With the appearance of well-received actors, Jung Woo-sung participating in the production and its unique content materials, “The Silent Sea” attracted keen attention.
However, as soon as it was premiered, mixed responses from netizens who watched “The Silent Sea” were recorded.
Some praised the content with various things happening in space, saying they were such new ideas. They also complimented that “The Silent Sea” didn’t stop at being a simple sci-fi movie but told deep stories depicting ethical testimony about biological experiments. The drama’s CG technology, which portrayed the universe and showed the detailed appearance of the moon in a realistic way, also drew admiration.
Many people also pointed out the actors’ high-quality acting skills that helped them immerse themselves in the drama as one of the reasons to watch “The Silent Sea”. In addition, Gong Yoo and Bae Doona’s solid acting were said to have led the story so well.
On the other hand, some audiences expressed their disappointment, saying there were so many parts in which the truth of the incident was unraveled with only lines. Rather than showing the story, it was regrettable that they explained the case only in words.
In particular, some pointed out that the developments of the drama were quite slow, making it a little different from the existing sci-fi movies that present spectacular images and scenes.
As the story flow of this drama is quite slow and boring to watch, some suggested that “The Silent Sea” would have been better if they had created it as a short film.
