Yuya Tegoshi, a former member of the Japanese idol group NEWS, is under fire for his controversial speech.
Tegoshi Yuya from one of Japan’s largest agencies Johnny recently opened an emergency press conference to announce the release of his photo essay “AVALANCHE”.
“Now, no matter which country you go to, you will see K-POP, not Johnny’s music, taking over the world,” he expressed his admiration for the current power of K-POP all over the world. “Korea government backs up the music and art activity, and they are heading for the world with a scarily strong spirit“, he started his talk.
Tegoshi Yuya said, “BTS, debuted in 2013, is impressive on the Billboard chart in terms of both physical sales and digital sales. They are famous to such an extent that we can already see a special performance of them at the Grammys“.
Talking about TWICE, he said, “They formed a group with Taiwan members, Japanese members along with the Korean members. And with English, Korean, Japanese and Chinese, they can do live everywhere all around the world.“
“What if we focused more on learning foreign languages such as English like BTS, and had members with different nationalities like TWICE, NEWS or other Johnny’s group would have become Asia’s number 1. We might be able to enter the Billboard chart“, he said.
Yuya’s opinion that K-POP’s world success is thanks to the Korean Government is under fire as many Korean fans are angry. He deciphered the success built by the personal effort of the idols as something normal achieved by the help of the government. Korean fans are furious and demand an official apology from the Japanese idol.
