“America is a racist country”, a famous actor said about the hatred surrounding black “Little Mermaid”

Actor Titus Burgess criticizes those who spoke badly of Disney’s black casting for “The Little Mermaid” live action movie.

Recently, the 43-year-old actor Titus Burgess, who became famous after starring in the Netflix sitcom “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”, mentioned those who show disgust over black actress Halle Bailey, 22, just because she played the new Little Mermaid.

“You know what? I’m not surprised by anything. We live in America,” he told media site Page Six recently.

Burgess then went on to call America a “very racist” and “very narrow-minded country, full of mental illness and people who cannot see the forest from the trees”. “The movie is not made for them; it’s made for people with open minds’, the actor emphasized.

Earlier this month, Disney released a trailer for its live-action version of “The Little Mermaid”, which garnered close to 14 million views and 626,000 likes on YouTube. However, the same video also received 1.5 million dislikes, and a video which turned Halle Bailey into a white person appeared amid the heated controversy.

Last year, when news came out that Disney had cast Halle Bailey to play the main character Ariel of “The Little Mermaid”, some movie fans insisted that the actress being black will destroy the original version – which features a red-head and white mermaid.

Regarding such a reaction, Burgess made sure to note that the mermaid, based on a Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale, isn’t real.

“It’s fictional!” he exclaimed to Page Six. “She doesn’t exist, so there’s that! [That’s] all the information you need about the people who are feeling cantankerous about it.”
