6 years after the Hallyu ban, G-Dragon paves the way for Korean stars to promote in China again

China has been one of the biggest targets of Korean entertainment artists for many years, thanks to its high payouts for celebrities.

Previously, G-Dragon was appointed an ambassador for famous Chinese brands such as Beijing Hyundai Motors, Kappa, Vidal Sassoon, Hi Panda, Chow Tai Fook, Tencent and Cheetah Mobile. The Hyundai event became a trending topic in Korea,

In September 2016, due to political tensions with Korea, China imposed a ban on all activities of Korean celebrities such as concerts, events, and commercials. In 2022, despite the THAAD dispute, ads with G-Dragon as the model of famous Chinese soft drink brand Chapai appeared on major billboards and buildings across China.

A recent JTBC News report said, “A local resident in CHina said that he felt the recent move was aimed at easing tensions with South Korea. Two years ago, it was difficult to see billboards of a Korean celebrity on the street, but nowadays, they can be seen on buildings and billboards”.

After the THAAD ban in 2016, it became difficult for Korean celebs to work in China. However, G-Dragon is still the ambassador and is featured on Chapai drinks till today.

Jun Ji Huyn and IU have also become the face of the famous inline Hallyu fashion sales website HanDuiseo. Photos of the duo together are displayed in the homepage, and are also being advertised on TV and newspaper. Recently, many sources said that a poster of IU, the global ambassador of New Balance, is displayed at the brand’s store, On the 28th of last month, ELLE China posted a photo of Jun Ji Hyun and Song Hye Kyo in an article on the website.
