4 times YG artists reference each other’s hits in their own songs: BLACKPINK is often the “target”?

YG artists are definitely the most adorable labelmates in Kpop!

The relationship of YG’s artists has always been a mystery since the company set extremely “harsh” rules to limit the interactions between their male and female idols. However, fans can always spot the adorable hints between their favorite YG artists. Among them, fans have noticed YG artists making references to each other’s hits in their own songs many times, either through the choreography or lyrics. Notably, YG artists enjoy paying tribute to BLACKPINK’s songs the most.

XOXO (Somi) – SOLO (Jennie)

In the recently released solo title track called XOXO, Somi gave a direct reference to the hit SOLO by her senior BLACKPINK’s Jennie. Somi sings the most iconic line in the chorus of SOLO: “I’m a shining solo” and also dances to the point choreography of Jennie’s solo debut song.

Somi’s MV also gives off the same vibes as BLACKPINK’s MVs, so fans can’t help but notice many similarities that XOXO MV shares with SOLO and Lovesick Girls MV. Since Somi is under The Black Label – YG’s subsidiary, and she is also close to BLACKPINK members, it’s not surprising that she makes these references to her fellow sisters.

Ok Man (Bobby, Mino) – How You Like That (BLACKPINK)

Another impressive choreography of BLACKPINK in How You Like That was reused by 2 seniors.  However, the version of “How You Like That” in Mino & Bobby’s song “Ok Man” looks more witty and fun, matching the song’s melody.

Who You (G-Dragon) – The Baddest Female (CL)

G-Dragon (BIGBANG) and CL (2NE1) once had a lovely indirect interaction on stage.  Just a few months after CL’s The Baddest Female was released, G-Dragon also promoted the song Who You.  Although the two songs have two completely different concepts, G-Dragon cleverly integrated the lyrics and viral choreography of The Baddest Female.
