The late Jang Ja-yeon’s former agency CEO sues Song Sun-mi for defamation

Actress Song Sun-mi was sued for defamation

Kim Young-sang, the legal representative of the late Jang Ja-yeon’s former agency CEO Kim, announced on Dec 20th, “We recently filed a defamation complaint against Song Sun-mi with the Seoul Dongjak Police Station. Song Sun-mi is scheduled to undergo a police investigation soon.”

In March 2019, Yoon Ji-oh, who claimed to be the sole witness in the Jang Ja-yeon case, urged Song Sun-mi to “tell the truth”. At that time, Song Sun-mi stated, “I didn’t even know if I was in the same company (The Contents) as Jang Ja-yeon. I wasn’t close with the deceased. I worked with CEO Kim for about 2 years. I sued over unpaid appearance fees, and CEO Kim lost the case. I learned through the news that CEO Kim did something bad (related to the Jang Ja-yeon case), and I was also angry. Although I won the lawsuit, I never received (unpaid appearance fees) because the company went out of business.

CEO Kim’s side claims that Song Sun-mi made false statements damaging Kim’s reputation. Regarding unpaid appearance fees, they stated, “Song Sun-mi lied by saying she didn’t receive payment. She engaged in double-dipping, etc.” They also added that Song Sun-mi violated the exclusive contract and acted independently. Song Sun-mi had accused Kim of embezzlement in 2009, but Kim received a non-indictment decision.

Kim’s side has previously pointed out that Song Sun-mi made defamatory remarks. In 2012, at the press conference of the drama “Golden Time”, she criticized Kim as a “crazy dog”, and in 2013, she was booked without detention. Kim’s side stated, “Song Sun-mi has repeatedly lied and damaged our reputation, but she has never apologized. We will continue with legal action in the future.”
