10 SM trainees showcase their visuals and skills in “LASTART” to be chosen as NCT’s new members

The fierce competition among 10 trainees to debut in the new team of SM Entertainment’s boy group NCT has begun.

The July 27th broadcast of “NCT Universe: LASTART” unveiled the first challenge for 10 trainees to seize the opportunity to debut in NCT NEW TEAM, which is a “two-person stage”.

With the participation of BoA, Eunhyuk as artist directors and Key as special artist director, the performance of SM Rookies Sion and Yushi, the first members to have their debut confirmed, were revealed.

Zion and Yushi prepared a performance that was smooth yet powerful and presented their amazing teamwork. Seeing the two’s outstanding chemistry on the stage, Eunhyuk and Key praised, “You did well and performed freely. It was great to see a performance that mixed various genres”. However, they also pointed out the points that need to be improved, saying “I could feel the difference in your training periods. Sion was in a little hurry”, “I think you need to study how to make more diverse facial expressions”, etc.

SM Entertainment trainees hidden behind veils also took the stage. The first two trainees to step on stage were Haruta and Anderson. Both trainees, with 8 months and 6 months of training respectively, showcased outstanding performances with their exceptional skills.

Haruta mentioned NCT’s Jaehyun as his role model, and Anderson dreamed of becoming an idol after watching NCT’s ‘BOSS’ in Canada. The two delivered intense yet passionate dances to the song ‘Believer.’

Despite the short stage time, they exuded diverse charms and left a lasting impression. After their performances, the artist directors praised them, “It was great to see the young friends’ adult-like moments (in their dance),” and “Their dance skills are truly exceptional,” raising expectations for their future.

However, in the teaser revealed at the end of the episode, the artist directors’ critical comments such as “We didn’t feel any excitement,” along with the trainees’ nervous appearance in formation, raised curiosity.

“NCT Universe: LASTART,” in which only the top 4 trainees from a total of 4 missions can debut alongside Sion and Yushi as part of SM Rookies, is a pre-debut reality show to select the final NCT unit.

The show is broadcast on Japanese Hulu and Nihon TV, KOCOWA+ in North America, Central America, and South America, and Korean channels ENA and Tving.
