Chinese Fans Considering to Boycott aespa’s Upcoming Album?

Fanbases of aespa in China are considering boycotting the girl group’s upcoming album for two major reasons.

Recently, various Chinese fan bases of aespa are expressing their distress to SM Entertainment, even announcing their intention to boycott the girl group’s upcoming album on China’s largest SNS platform, Weibo.

In particular, aespa is about to hold a concert in Fukuoka Arena, Japan on July 7. However, this date is considered a “black day” (a day to pay respect with no entertainment activity) for Chinese people due to the Sino-Japanese war. As a result, many Chinese fans find this move to be “disrespectful” towards them, who have purchased millions of physical albums in support of aespa.

Additionally, the Chinese fan bases also express concern for aespa member Ningning, who is Chinese and therefore will undoubtedly find it hard to have to perform on such an occasion.

On top of this, fans also demand SM Entertainment to change the venues for aespa’s concert in Hong Kong and Macau. According to them, the 2 current venues can only accommodate 5,000 and 2,800 fans respectively, too small for the girl group’s high popularity in China.
