10% “Revenant” surpasses 9% “King the Land” in first face-off, weekend drama rating competition is intense

The viewership chart changed significantly this weekend due to the release of new dramas, such as “Revenant”.

According to the rating chart announced by Nielsen Korea on June 25th, episode 2 of “Revenant” (written by Kim Eun Hee/ directed by Lee Jung Rim), which aired on June 24th, recorded a nationwide rating of 10%, increasing 0.1% compared to the first broadcast’s rating (9.9%). Continuing the success of “Dr. Romantic 3”, “Revenant” ranked No.1 among all Saturday dramas.

Previously, JTBC’s Sat-Sun series “Doctor Cha” dominated the rating chart of weekend dramas. After “Doctor Cha” wrapped up its journey, “Dr. Romantic 3” took first place. Released as a follow-up series to “Doctor Cha”, “King the Land” achieved high ratings but couldn’t surpass “Revenant”, which aired after “Dr. Romantic 3” ended.

Episodes 1 and 2 of “King the Land”, which aired last week, recorded 5.075% and 7.544%, respectively, starting an upward trend. In its first face-off with “Revenant” on June 24th, “King the Land” continued to see an increase of 1.601% in rating and achieved 9.145% in the third broadcast.

“Revenant” is a Korean-style occult mystery thriller drama about a woman possessed by a devil and a man who can see the devil digging into mysterious deaths. As star writer Kim Eun Hee and trustworthy actors Kim Tae Ri and Oh Jung Se worked together for the project, “Revenant” received explosive responses even before its official broadcast and started off well with a 9.9% rating. Immediately after the first broadcast, viewers poured compliments on the thrilling story, Kim Eun Hee’s storytelling skills as well as the satisfying acting performances of the cast.

In the second episode of “Revenant” unveiled on the 24th, Goo San Young (Kim Tae Ri) gave viewers goosebumps as she acted strangely after getting possessed by the devil.

Although “Revenant” is leading the viewership ranking, viewers should not underestimate new dramas recently released by other broadcasters. While SBS and JTBC have been taking over the top spots in the rating chart for weekend broadcasts, TV Chosun, MBC, and tvN also joined the competition.

TV Chosun’s “Mrs. Durian” started with a viewership of 4.167% on the 24th, marking the second-highest first broadcast rating on TV Chosun following Im Sung Han’s previous drama “Love (ft. Marriage and Divorce)”.

In addition to “Mrs. Durian”, MBC’s “Numbers” and tvN’s “See You in My 19th Life” also recorded 4% and 4.9%, respectively, in nationwide ratings.

Although “Revenant” is taking the lead in the rating rankings, it does not mean the ratings of other weekend series, such as “King the Land” and “Mrs. Durian”, are low. Fans are looking forward to how this weekend drama competition will continue in the future.
