YouTube Channel Sued For Claiming Dongduk University Students As Employees Of Hostess Bar Lee Sun-kyun Visited

The YouTube channel “Hover Lab” is on the verge of being sued by Dongduk Women’s University for defamation

Last month, Kim Se-eui of “가로세로연구소 (Hover Lab)” hosted a live broadcast and said, “I’ve been to the entertainment establishment that Lee Sun-kyun and various celebrities visited. The young female employees there are all students from the Department of Broadcasting and Entertainment and the Department of Theater and Film of Dongduk Women’s University”,

Later on November 1st, Dongduk Women’s University criticized the broadcast for mentioning the name of a specific school and announced their plan to take legal action regarding the remarks about “entertainment establishment/ hostess bar employees”. The school also requested the YouTube channel to delete the video.

Earlier on October 30th, the Student Council of Dongduk Women’s University posted on their official SNS account, saying “A certain YouTube channel posted a video containing remarks that tarnished the honor and reputation of our Department of Broadcasting and Entertainment”, adding “We already sent a request for an official response from the university head office”.

At the request of the Student Council, Dongduk Women’s University formed a ‘YouTube False Information Countermeasures Committee’ on October 31st. The committee consists of the President of the Student Council, Chairman of the Emergency Management Committee of the College of Performing Arts, Head of the College of Performing Arts, Head professor of the Department of Broadcasting and Entertainment, and the Public Relations representative.

The countermeasures committee plans to officially take strong legal actions against Hover Lab for defamation.
