Will IVE Jang Won Young sing live at Golden Disc after lip sync controversy?

IVE member Jang Won Young headed to another awards ceremony amidst her “lip sync” controversy.

On January 6th, IVE members Won Young and Gaeul appeared at Incheon International Airport to attend the 27th Golden Disc Awards, which will be held at Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand at 8:00 PM (KST) on January 7th.

At “Golden Disc”, the oldest pop music awards ceremony in Korea, IVE is nominated for the Rookie Artist Award and the Bonsang Digital Song Award.

Meanwhile, on December 31st, Jang Won Young of IVE performed at the “2022 MBC Gayo Daejeon”, and has since been embroiled in controversy over her lip syncing. At the time, she covered IU’s “Strawberry Moon” with fellow IVE member Leeseo, and faced criticism for the stage.

In particular, it was pointed out that Jang Won Young and Leeseo lip sync even though they were sitting down throughout the stage, and performed no choreography. In addition, the lip sync sound was not a new recording, and has already been used on a previous IVE content.

As a result, Jang Won Young and Leeseo faced heavy criticism to the point of making headlines on KBS, and some netizens questioned if they can really be considered singers.

On the other hand, many defended Jang Won Young, explaining that the female idol might have lip synced due to her packed year-end schedule or physical condition.

After Jang Won Young’s lip-syncing controversy, the situation has led to a theoretical argument for and against idols who focus on performance.

In particular, some say that idols should have basic singing skills and basic stage manners as singers, instead of putting a lot of emphasis on performance, concept, and appearance.

At the same time, many pose the question if Jang Won Young will lip sync again on the stage of the 37th Golden Disc Awards.
